The first thing you need to realize is that most of the time your words are not going to change their feelings or 'fix' the problem. I know this sounds cliche, but you need to be there for support and lend an understanding ear. Depending on the nature and cause of a persons feelings, they will usually work through these tough emotions in their own time, with strength and support from caring individuals like you!
